Position Summary: The controller position is responsible for all accounting operations which include the production of financial reports, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, banking, maintaining the system for accurately preserving accounting records, maintaining and updating a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensuring that the reported results comply with company accounting policies using most generally accepted accounting principles . The controller is also responsible for the management of the Accounting and Human Resources Departments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Responsible for maintaining significant accounting policies and procedures.
Preparation of timely monthly financial statements and fair presentation of the financial statements free from material misstatements and in accordance with AICPA Financial Reporting Framework for Small and Medium-Sized Entities.
Analytical analysis of financial information and utilization of financial data to assist operations and management with problem solving and decision-making processes.
Design, implement, and maintain internal control systems relevant to the preparation and fair presentation of the financial statements.
Ensure adherence to corporate policies and procedures.
Identifying and ensuring that the Company complies with the laws and regulations applicable to CIMI’s activities to include licensing requirements.
Maintain accuracy of the GL, record monthly journal entries, reconcile subsidiary accounts, including AR, AP, Inventory, Accruals, Payroll, work papers and schedules, etc., and test accounting records to confirm reconciliation to the GL and other financial reports.
Record all material transactions and verify there are no uncorrected misstatements.
Maintain and oversee accuracy and completeness of company records, documents, explanations, and other information, including significant judgements regarding all accounting departments.
Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
Prepare and analyze monthly Work-In-Progress information and job cost data, including forecasted job cost projections, calculation of overhead allocations, and prepare summary schedule including costs in excess of billings and billings in excess of costs.
Balance and post revenue breakout each month by department.
Prevention and detection of fraud.
Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and analysis and document the variances.
Assist with creation and maintenance of cash flow projections. Review measurement results to goals and objectives and report to CFO.
Review pending or threatened litigation, claims, or assessments or unasserted claims or assessments that are required to be accrued or disclosed in the financial statements.
Report and assess contingencies that may be required to be accrued and disclosed including understanding of commitments.
Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting and compliance with annual government audits, as required, and complete trade surveys.
Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Advise CIMI regarding financial impacts on any contracts into which the company may enter.
Complete, analyze, and report comparisons to AWI Cost of Doing Business Survey.
Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action.
Review and make recommendations for equipment funding and evaluation of large capital expenditures.
Oversee company's business insurance plans and health care coverage analysis.
Review and recommend insurance coverage for health, life, general, and work comp insurance.
Oversee and manage any insurance claims.
Supervise personnel regarding human resources accuracy of personnel matters and benefits including maintaining an understanding of employment benefits, i.e.: 401k retirement plan, health insurance, life insurance, EEOC regulations, labor laws etc.
Supervise personnel regarding accuracy and procedures of maintaining Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, AR Collections, Sales Tax, purchase orders, petty cash, processing of employee expense reports, cash control, and Payroll Processing, including preparation of timely filed Tax Reports, timely transmittal of EFT tax payments.
Review and approve billings and oversee AR issues, posting, and collections.
Ensuring accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components' including billings, and cash receipt application.
Monitor the banking activities of the organization.
Training and development of the accounting and HR staff.
Maintain work area, organized and orderly, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Work on a variety of projects that are delegated from the CFO.
Review and approve credit card charges.
Review and/or evaluate lien waivers before having them signed.
Help with completion of prequalification forms specifically the financial side.
Advanced degree in accounting (CPA or CMA helpful)
10+ years of overall combined accounting - preferred experience as a Controller
Prior experience in manufacturing or construction is required
Experience with the preparation and complete presentation of financial statements
Proficiency with accounting software (preferably Sage)
Excellent computer skills including knowledge and experience with Excel, Outlook, and Word
Experience and working knowledge of inventory, WIP, costs and estimated earnings in excess of billings on uncompleted contracts and billings in excess of costs and estimated earnings on uncompleted contracts
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Working knowledge and understanding of GAAP
Knowledge of payroll, use and sales tax regulations
Strong understanding of corporate income tax codes and laws
Strong analytical skills
Strong cost accounting skills
Qualified candidate must have professional misdemeanor, be highly ethical, able to maintain confidentiality, be credible, and provide full disclosure of clean financial background history
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and time deadlines
